ABC’s Wipeout

Haven’t I seen this show before? Yes. It was called MXC and I watched it all the time when I was in college. Will I watch ABC’sversion called Wipeout? Absolutely. Who doesn’t enjoy watching nonathletic people try to conquer difficult obstacles and take diggers over and over and over. The show is hilarious.

And let’s be honest. There is nothing on TV right now unless you are a baseball fan. College sports are over, the NBA Finals are almost over and the Stanley Cup Finals are winding down. Something has to span the gap between now and the beginning of football season. Why not Wipeout?

Besides the pure joy of watching these “athletes” flounder around the obstacle course, the show’s hosts are entertaining as well. The Johns, one from Sportscenter and one from a show on the E! Network do a really good job of tastefully mocking the contestants. The pair was ruthless on one guy with 8 inch mutton chops as well as on a 29 year old girl who still lives with her parents and said she was going to take the $50,000 winning prize and have “a kick ass time in Vegas with her girlfriends.” The third member of the Wipeout team is Jill. She talks to the contestants after they bust their faces. She is hideous.

Wipeout host. Told you she was brutal.

So yeah this show is great. I don’t care that it is not an original idea. Who comes up with original ideas these days anyway?
